What is Wellbeing?
Wellbeing is feeling good and functioning well in life. Healthier lifestyles mean we can lead more fulfilled and happy lives and we can then achieve a positive and balanced level of wellbeing.
So our lifestyles choices are defined by our habits which are patterns of behaviours wired in our brains. Because we can change habits by recognising them we can then increase our conscious awareness so we make better decisions. So we can change behaviours and take control to positively manage our health and wellbeing.
Why is the NHS changing?
The NHS is changing because of increasing demands and new challenges. An ageing population, lifestyle changes, public expectations and emerging medical technologies means the NHS is unable to sustain how it delivers services. Its vision and strategy is for people to live longer, healthier and happier lives. One of the ways it will do this is by working with different partners to support people to make healthier choices. Wellbeing coaching can support you to achieve a healthier lifestyle.
Over the next 3 years the NHS is making a shift from treating health problems to helping people manage their own health and wellbeing. This approach will support people to manage their wellbeing which helps to prevent illness. This is a more sustainable approach for the NHS to deliver high quality care and services (NHS, Wales, 2018).
This means we all need to be responsible for improving our wellbeing. Just like how we are changing our behaviours in the way we use plastic to save our planet, we need to change our behaviours to improve our health and wellbeing.
